I find it funny how the math part of the SAT lets you use desmos (not that its a bad thing in any way though)
like, the whole argument of “you won’t always have a calculator on you” has been entirely nil for years now, because 99.9% of the time you need to do anything like that you will have something far more powerful than a calculator on you (your smartphone)
this is not to say that you shouldn’t still learn math just because we constantly have access to highly advanced calculators now. You still need to know how to apply and manipulate all the math, but the calculator can do most of the dirty work.

“you wont always have a calculator on you” is a argument made by only pre high school teachers and stops being said once you get into advanced algebra-calculus. they have no expectations for students to be able to exactly and accurately graph a polynomial function like f(x)=3.82x³+4x²+2.03 … doing that manually just wastes a lot of time and doesn’t let educators actually teach and test you on the important stuff
And let’s face it if you’re going to do complex math why would you not have a calculator? It’s not like you would need to do trig on a desert island
yea but there will 100% be a situation where u need to do maths on the fly in ur life, like it cant hurt to have that skill right
oh no ofc, even if you have the calculator you still need to know how to apply those mathematics, it becomes less of an issue of doing a lot of math operations and more of figuring out what math to use and how to use it for your situation, but if you’re in a situation where something involves quadratics or radicals you probably have your phone on you
ex: you need to solve 2x³+1/2x²-40x-26.3 = y for its zeroes, you’d definitely use a calculator, but you (or someone) had to have come up with that equation in the first place
yea, i get that
