once i have enough money, I want to make a raspberry pi cluster as a server. it wil be quote expensive. whats your opinion? im going to do raspi 4B fyi. prices:

8GB - $75

4GB - $55

1GB - $35

I want to have at least 3 nodes, but having 8 would be awesome, but $600 i did the 8GB RAM. i am currenty broke so this will not be soon. what do yall think i should do?

is low power consumption important for you? for the price you said ($600), you can get some pretty great used hardware. for reference, my new server is half that price.

that being said, right now, electricity is insanely expensive so you will certainly save money by going with the raspberry pis.

but from what i heard, it’s basically impossible to find any, and maybe you might get more use out of an old x86 desktop with lots of ram and a good processor. for $600 there are very good used deals. the old server that most of wasteof runs on was an $80 used dell optiplex and its awesome! power consumption is low, and it is practically silent (unlike the new server)

Power isn't to much if a concern. (My brother just got a new PC with an rtx 3070 ti)

I actually dont have $600 atm, so I might just use my dad's VPS if he lets me. I currently have like $30 so I'm not getting anything anytime soon. I'll just end up adding Mt dad if I can use his vps. I already have a raspberry pi 4B 8GB with a 128 gig SD card soo that might work. I just want to self host some stuff.

that's cool. i bought my new server which is a 10 year old dell r720xd, to learn more about how the enterprise technology works and to host some things. it's very worth it if you're willing to deal with some headaches.

nice! I'm thinking of possibly hosting a file server for me, shynet analytics, and Sparklabs possibly

You have some good points
