I'm starting to realize why everyone seems to agree with this now.
It's become a common trend online to completely ignore basic grammar and spelling. You see it on Twitter, Scratch, pretty much everywhere.
Dude, I have perfectly correct grammar and spelling when I choose to. I have perfect (36) english and reading scores on the ACT. It’s a matter of choosing when and when not to be correct. In informal situations, it might be more appropriate to use abbreviations or intentional misspellings. When writing an essay, it’s important to have a formal writing style.
I’d also point out that writing essays is about way more than writing style and grammar. It’s about putting together cohesive thoughts into a well-structured paper. College papers especially are not focused on correct syntax as much as they are on ideas.
