it does what the beta profile color dropdown does, except for prod users. 
also, are dots supposed to show next to users’ names in comments?

yes, after 45 minutes or so :)
you can also change the prod dot color in beta settings using the profile color dropdown (without rate limiting afaik)
Click the button, and it assigns a random profile colour to you.
