I got an ad ðat said „florida’s book ban is an attack on lgbt+ identities“, and while ðis is true, it is not ðe only þing ðat is bad about ðis, and like, yes, ðe floridian government is homophobic, and ðis is almost certainly why ðey did ðat, but is it not also an attack on freedom of ðe press? like, I get ðat people are more likely to care about ðe one ðan ðe oðer, but ðis seems odd, if only slightly.

(hmm should i try to find a way to weasel in an reference to why you should be a socialist nah ðat seems like too much effort)

the goal of the book ban is twofold. they obviously want to suppress lgbtq+ people's identities, expression, and any speech that mentions their existence. you're absolutely right that they also want to silence free speech of anyone they disagree with as you can see they're they are also taking out books about racism (including math books that even mention it exists). it's pretty obviously DeSantis and the right are attempting to restrict the speech of minorities and their opposition as a whole

i would just assume that that particular ad wanted to discuss it from that angle, even if there are other potential angles as well 🤷‍♂️
