Sometimes I wonder if this platform will continue to grow - not because I have any doubt that it deserves to or that it has the ability to, but just because I feel like I see the same people posting all the time. I think only time will tell if wasteof will remain a small community of the same 15 or so people posting consistently or if it will begin to attract a few new users every now and then.
Maybe follow more people lol. I follow basically every active user (plus several hundred more) and I see new active people joining about once a week on average (give or take).
Building onto @da-ta's point: A lot or us do come from Scratch, so I wouldn't be surprised if more Scratchers came to wasteof. However, I do enjoy this very small community, since it gives you a bigger connection to people on the platform
Though @jeffalo would need bigger/more servers if a whole swarm of new users came into wasteof (lol)
Good point also. In regards to server costs and so on we have discussed before that many here would be happy to donate and/or buy merch to support wasteof if Jeffallo needed the help
It's notable that wasteof4 alpha has a donate button in the footer
I saw that too! I’m glad that Jeffalo is hopefully going to allow donations to help support wasteof
I think it will probably attract new folks here and there. Most of us have come from the Scratch community, so I wouldn’t be surprised to see more potentially come here when they outgrow that platform. Even if wasteof stayed at this size I wouldn’t mind, it’s not everyday you get to have a social media platform that has been built by such a small group. Plus, that has meant that we all have control over how this place conducts itself and what is implemented into the website, app and more. It’s also encouraged so many cool projects like wasteof for iOS, wasteof.plus and of course all the cool bots.
Those are really good points!
it will definitely be interesting to see
Agreed!
I do think it also depends on who you follow though. Like i'm following a lot of new/less popular users who post much more often.
So then the real problem is discovery - because I have not recently found any new users because the only way I find them is via comments or the explore page
the best way i find is to follow everyone who follows jeffalo, that’s how i follow so many people. i also try to welcome them if they’re new.
I find people by looking at new followers of top users
