HAI saying they are based on Spanish was mainly criticized because before he said that, he said that the consonants were based on English, which is definitely not true.
(see Oat Jenkins making a video on learning TP, which had a very positive reception)
I saw that one too, and I agree, it is better than sam’s video
they aren’t based on english, but saying it is is probably easier for people who don’t already know the ipa to understand
