All I see on Twitter is the England football shirt saga, where Nike changed the English flag on the back of the shirt to pink and blue.
Many people have been outraged over this as it’s woke due to the colours (when it’s not to support anyone it’s a reference to England’s 1966 World Cup winning training kit) whilst others are saying people are snowflakes and it’s “just a flag/piece of fabric”
Many have also complained that it is disrespectful to change a nations flag, which I completely agree with and is why I don’t like this change - flags are an identity to countries and shouldn’t be messed with.

My only issue with this whole debacle is how Rishi Sunak and Keir Starmer have both made public statements about this agreeing with each other basically and yet cannot be bothered to actually deal with substantively more important stuff. Like yeah sure this is a dumb choice on the part of Nike, but does it really warrant this massive response when in the grand scheme it can be pretty easily remedied? Again, no issue with folks and football fans discussing this stuff and whatnot, but I just find it gross in a way how our leaders are quicker to respond and denounce stuff like this than other things that in my view would be more important to so-called politicians
Agreed. I liked Rishi’s statement on it, short and simple, but yeah there’s more important things. Nike should amend the change and that’s that. For me as a huge football fan I’m just bored that every fucking time I go onto Twitter that’s what my timeline is about lmao
Yeah, basically my thoughts too. But that’s Twitter for you lol, the platform has for years (even before Elon) been a place that breeds this kind of outrage culture where people can’t just make a complaint about something but instead have to turn it into a massive problem while debates about important issues just turn into screaming matches lol
yeah, main thing that annoys me is arguments that just aren’t reasonable, eg “this is woke” (it’s not to do with pride) and “it’s been done here and here etc” (that doesn’t mean those other incidences are fine)
The whole "woke" argument to me just feels like a buzzword used for when someone doesn't like something because it doesn't align with their worldview. I saw Tweets the other day where folks are annoyed that Asda is selling halal chocolate and somehow selling a product that appeals to a group of people is "woke". Like I say it just feels like a meaningless buzzword lmao
i sometimes use the word when something geniunely is woke (eg the whole conflict yesterday) but the word is being increasingly used more and more for stuff that is completley fine/supportive
