this. this is why I donāt like AI. not because I think itās a danger to humanity, not because iām just jumping on the bandwagon, but because it removes creativity.
yes, I got the memo that scratch wonāt be adding generative projects.
but in general, I despise most generative AI platforms. they take away creativity from real artists and writers and the such, and they allow for the spread of misinformation much easier than before. the only type of generative AI that Iām fine with is the assistive AI that comes with some art programs, but only because they donāt generate pieces, they help the artist make pieces. at least it retains some of the originality and creativity.
and donāt even get me started on the people who get paid to āwrite promptsā for AI. Itās the stupidest, most low-effort job Iāve ever heard of.
(edit: iām also okay with platforms like ChatGPT because theyāre really just demonstrating what their model can do. theyāre not trying to market it as a generative AI to solve all problems, theyāre just trying to show people what they made.)
luckily it seems Scratch isnāt interested in adding script generation with AI
looks like 4.0 will probably just add different AI powered blocks/plugins, (edit: improved facial recognition, has been a feature since 2021) facial recognition being one of them on Scratch Lab, as well as body tracking and object detection

AI? Really? AI? They want to inspire creativity and they are including AI? How on earth will AI help kids create? If anything, it will stop the learning process because, instead of creating art or code that is creative and requires skill, kids will just write a prompt.

a new position on the scratch foundationās website went up recently, and the job description confirms that scratch 4.0 is in development. says itāll feature a āre-imagined online community and creative aiāā¦ whatever that means
no word of a release date, but thatās understandable. iām actually kind of excited for this, i feel like scratchās online community hasnāt been working super well recently so hopefully thisāll fix some of those issues. as for the ai thingā¦ please no. so many things can go wrong with thatā¦
