Happy 24th birthday to my favourite album ever made, Kid A by Radiohead. It’s so incredible beautiful, emotional, dystopian, yet weirdly hopeful and cathartic in its own way. An album birthed from writer’s block and disillusionment with guitar based music as well as immense fame after 1997s OK Computer, it’s one of Radiohead’s experimental records and the record that cemented their place in music history. It’s an album that speaks to me in a way I can’t really explain well in text, but it helped me at some very dark and difficult times, I also took on a lot of new meaning to me during the COVID lockdowns. I don’t have anything more to say other than happy birthday to Kid A, released October 2nd, 2000.

I love how consistent Jamie xx’s album and single artwork is. (The rectangle represents part of The xx’s X logo used on all their album artwork, as he is one part of the band, hence his stage name being Jamie xx). He just dropped a new album called In Waves, it’s a banger and you should listen to it!

Looks like PayPal has gone down the road of many other big brands and is erasing any and all personality from their brand identity. The iconic double P icon that you all instantly know as PayPal is now relegated to just being an app icon and in some other select places is replaced with a wordmark that is just a modification of a font inspired by Futura. They claim the prominence of black is to pull away from how many other brands in the space use blue, yet the entire palette is still blue and is featured all over the identity. This is a downgrade on almost every level in my view.
Hello this isn't a threat but you must listen to the new Magdalena Bay album Imaginal Disk if you haven't already. It's a mixture of pop, synthpop, progressive pop, prog rock, space rock and psychedelia. It is so maximalist in it's production in the right ways, the drumming is insane, the attention to detail and massive amounts of different sonic layers on every track is stunning. It's fun, danceable, introspective, unique and yet familiar. It throws in some classic 80s synthpop and 70s drum sounds that are retro yet so forward thinking at the same time in how it's excited, the vocals are wonderful and incredibly passionate. There are so many good moments, literally everything on here is, but I gotta shout out Killing Time, Death & Romance, Watching T.V., That's My Floor, and Cry for Me - Cry for Me being a psychedelic opus that takes ques from ABBA’s Dancing Queen. This is a 10/10 album for me and I've heard some amazing music this year already before this, please give it a go. This album is a drug and I am thoroughly addicted to it.
it's incredibly ironic to me how a Google pixel 9 ad I keep seeing uses I want to break free by queen, considering how the pixel 9 and Google promote tools that are designed to replace human creativity from the equation
