so the fact for today is that most nyc subway stations have this green lamp on the outside. the station entrances you see more frequently (with just stairs that go down and a green fence around them) have these lamps on the corners, but i think it’s cool when other stations, like this one (96th street on the 1, 2, 3) also have them!
not all stations have these, particularly some new modern ones, but it’s interesting when some stations (like the hoyt-schermerhorn station on the a, c, g) that are modern incorporate it into a modern design. (see image https://ddp-ny.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/210-Livingston.jpg )
image of the 96th street (1, 2, 3) station taken by me:

nyc fact/tip #27:
beware of bike passenger rides you will find outside of broadway shows and other tourist attractions and in central park. these are very expensive! they usually charge $6/minute and try to convince you to upgrade to a higher price.
i do have respect for these people as they are hustling and making it work in one of the most expensive places to live on earth, but be warned that the bill at the end will be very high.

nyc fact/tip #26
today is national transit employee appreciation day! thank you to all mta, path, njtransit, and cttransit employees for moving the region that moves the world
nyc fact/tip #25:
nyc has a sanitation rating posted for every restaurant. this is required to be displayed in a place people can see, like the front door. the grades are A, B, C, and Grade Pending.
understand that if you enter a restaurant that isn’t an A rating, the health department has found health violations! examples are rodents in food or non-food areas, improper food handling, etc. if a restaurant is “Grade Pending” it’s possible the restaurant is also unsanitary too.
You can use this tool to find restaurants and with their ratings and any health violations. https://a816-health.nyc.gov/ABCEatsRestaurants/#!/Search
i found this out today and am currently deciding on what i think about a restaurant i love that is rated B. :(
B isn’t that bad, i always thought. well it’s second to worst ig.
nyc fact/tip #24:
if brooklyn was it’s own city, it would be the 4th largest city in the usa!
nyc fact/tip #23 (real this time):
the nyc public schools system has a budget for the 2023-24 school year at a whopping 37.5 billion dollars. and yet 665 title 1 schools have over half of their classes at above the class size limit (overcrowding).
nyc fact/tip #22:
nyc is kind of the biggest scam. i saw an ice cream truck and was like “wait this was my childhood!” so me and my friends got 3 ice creams. and guess how much it was?
it was…
$30??!?!? how is that even legal?? $10 for an ice cream cone is insane. i love new york!
nyc question #1:
have you ever been to nyc? did you like it? do you want to go?
(respond pls)
nyc fact/tip #21:
people selling tickets outside the staten island ferry are trying to scam you. it’s free.
nyc fact/tip #20:
nyc has a great public transit system, subway and bus. it’s the best in north america. but, that doesn’t mean it’s perfect. it’s far from it.
here are things that are bad about the nyc subway and bus:
metrocard machines make you want to bring latex gloves so you can use them without touching that nasty grease and who knows what on the screen
when you miss the train and realize the next one is in like 30 minutes
not understanding what they are saying across the pa system on the train so you don’t realize the train is actually express or skipping a station until it’s too late
card being declined on the omny reader so you are barred from using it until you pay back, and then you pay back on the website, and then it says you need to re-activate your card to use omny again, but there’s NO BUTTON to do that, so you email the customer support and they never respond (besides the robot a few days later), and now you can’t log into your account on the website and don’t want to call the live customer support (because you hate calling).
i can’t read a bus map. way too many lines and stops for me, just use google maps. (not a problem with nyct but with myself lol)
when you refill your metrocard and it charges you but the money never goes on the card so it just robbed you
when the metrocard machine only accepts cash or is broken all together
nyc fact/tip #19:
it will snow tomorrow!! this should be the most snow we’ve gotten all year. nyc schools are closed! (and i’d assume the same with the rest of the area!)
nyc fact/tip #18:
in the usa, 1 in every 38 people live in nyc and 1 in every 16.5 people live in our metro area!
————
note: the metro area for this calculation was defined as follows (in order of geographical proximity):
New York County (Manhattan), Kings County (Brooklyn), Bronx County, Queens County, Richmond County (Staten Island), Nassau County, Westchester County, Hudson County, Essex County, Bergen County, Fairfield County, Middlesex County, Monmouth County, Union County, Morris County, Passaic County, Rockland County, Orange County, Suffolk County, Somerset County, Dutchess County, and Putnam County
(thanks, chatgpt!) definitions of the nyc metro area can vary, which is why i specified.
