The post I’m gonna pin, I guess

-I go by Scratchykit (or SK for short)

-I am a girl (she/her)

-I’m autistic (I don’t approve of self-diagnosis)

I do a lot of shit on the internet lol. Anything from stupid scratch projects to art to engaging with scratch forumers

If I could on this website, I’d block liberally ;-;

Hot take

Self-diagnosis (of autism spectrum disorder) is not “valid”, in fact it’s total bullshit

Doing this not only reinforces the idea that medical doctors with PHDs are bullshit, but it also reinforces the idea that autism is… well, what the internet makes it out to be instead of what it actually is

Autism isn’t just a condition wherein you stim, hyperfixate on random shit and are socially awkward.

Trust me, you do NOT want to deal with violent meltdowns and overstimulation. Does it look like I want to be taking pills every night because of my behavioral issues? No. Does it look like I want to be in special ed? No. Does it look like I want to be bombarded with people calling me weird and/or a retard for existing? Absolutely NOT.

There’s a difference between suspecting you might have a certain disorder and going out of your way to “self-diagnose” yourself with no credentials.

Just because doctors are biased sometimes doesn’t give you an excuse to use this as a crutch, either.

So just don’t “self-diagnose” your shit. It’s that simple. This behavior isn’t just total bullshit, it enables the romanticization of autism. So just stop it.
