12.31.23 || People change. This has been a recurring theme in my notebook for the past several months. Sometimes people that you know, and maybe are very close with, head down a different path. That different path might be very good, or very bad, or neither (just plain different). Maybe you (perhaps unconsciously) led them down a different path. Or perhaps their decisions are unrelated to you. It may not be worth thinking about it too carefully. It may not even be worth talking about it. ...

12.23.23 || Two nights ago, I had a lucid dream for the first time in about 9 years. Nothing too special happened in the dream itself, but the fact that I was lucid was special itself.

12.21.23 || Sometimes I look around at all the infrastructure that we've built: roads, bridges, buildings, ... A lot of this stuff has been built only within the last 150 years. That sounds like a long time, but at the same time, it sounds like no time at all. There's SO MANY roads, bridges, buildings, etc. that are built! It looks really difficult and time-consuming to build all of this stuff! And we built them all within only 150 years?! Society is amazing.

12.20.23 || ...Wow. Every now and then, I have a dream that is just ... really dark. I wish I was able to finish it before I woke up. Also related: I feel like a lot of my dreams are realistic, in the sense that they could actually happen in reality. So why do shows and movies portray dreams as really weird overimaginative fantasies? Do other people really have dreams like that?

12.12.23 || I consistently amaze myself over how fast my new laptop charges, and how much time it takes before it needs to be charged again. My old laptop was more worn down than I thought. Graduate student lingo: "P-set" means "problem set," like a homework assignment; it's a very silly yet common phrase in the graduate school world.

12.10.23 || Let's see... Two days ago I went to a "concert," and I "listened to music" so much that I worried that I would have a "headache" the next morning. Luckily, when I woke up the next morning (yesterday), I had no "headache." But then for the rest of the day I took it easy anyway, and for some reason when I woke up this morning (today), I did have a slight "headache." Coincidence, or did the effects just take a really long time to get to me?
