I remember elon saying he is unblocking everyone apart from bot accounts on his personal twitter due to “it’s great to hear differing opinions”. He’s right, but 1. those “differing opinions” can be too extreme/offensive and that can make others feel uncomfortable and in that case it is better for them to avoid that content, 2. this change people can’t even block stalkers/paedos which is bad and 3. elon’s tweet mentioned above literally also proved that even he thinks it is a necessary feature to block some accounts.

you’re right, twitter should make it so blocks are also based on IP, although that could also be bypassed with a VPN.

especially for a platform like X that is becoming increasingly less moderated by its own staff. when Elon first bought Twitter and announced he was bringing back Trump, Kanye, and other banned users, and reducing the moderation level, he actually said it would be up to individual users to block users they didn't want to interact with, but now even that's gone. what happened to his "limited reach" thing or his promise that even when "ultimate free speech" was achieved, it wouldn't make the platform less safe/uncomfortable for marginalized groups or increase harassment?
