one example: it costs ~90k to feed and house someone in prison for 1 year, but only ~17k (it depends) to feed and house someone not in prison, yet instead of feeding and housing the homeless, the usonian government incarcerates them

Huh, I have never heard of someone going to jail for being homeless.

Not sure if homelessness is the direct cause, might be just loitering or obnoxious behavior cause alcohol or something…?
