oh yeah I forgot to talk about rugby

so I didn’t experience a single win playing for my team until last November after over a full calendar year of playing, and we had low expectations for the spring with a first-time head coach and a bunch of new players

we showed to our first tournament of the year and finished second place despite still being a lil sloppy. the second tournament feature some much bigger and more experienced teams and we were the only small college who advanced to the quarterfinals. being 4-5 through 2 tourneys isn’t ideal but it was still way better than we expected.

we kept getting better and tougher and more polished as the season progressed, finished the year with a 10-8-2 record, placed top 3 in 3 different tournaments, and beat a bunch of teams who were an entire division above us. 6 of those losses were to teams at least a division above us. we were consistently among the grittiest and most dominant small colleges in all the tournaments we played in.

I’m mostly in a passing and defensive role and didn’t always start but I still made a big impact, I served as acting captain toward the end of some games and was able to score a try (my teammate was the one who broke through to score but he passed it off to me last second so I could get one, but still)

we completely turned the club around in a single offseason. we put other schools on notice. if we keep it up through next year, we’re gonna be dominating next spring.

it was a super fun season.
