Fun Fact:

Finals week is not nice to crabs. I mean come on, how do they expect a crab to comprehend some of this stuff??

bite people

Edit: I didn’t post this? Someone got into Crab’s base and has taken all the crabbies! I have reason to believe it’s @mef due to his infatuation of biting humans.

Crab of the Week - 10

With a roar and a growl, this weeks crab of the week is the North American Black Bear!

These bizarre crabs are actually not related to crabs in any way! They are large, fluffy, and oh so cute! They eat fish, and just like their name, live in North America!

Happy April Fools, everyone!

Crab of the Week - 9

In honor of St. Patrick’s Day, this week’s Crab of the Week is none other than the European Green Crab! A.K.A the Green Shore Crab, these crabs bear sets of spikes on the rim of their shell near their eyes. They also have the usual 8 legs and 2 claws.

They’re an invasive species! They’ve been found on shores everywhere from Northern Africa, to Norway, to even Western and Eastern United States!

Sometimes these crabs aren’t even green! They can also be brown, gray, or even red!

Happy Belated St. Patrick’s Day, everyone!

Crab of the Week - 8

Closely related to Chesapeake Blue Crabs, though more spotted, this week’s Crab of the week is the Flower Crab, also known as the Blue Swimmer Crab! Found in the Indo-Pacific, these stunning crustaceans bring beautifully vibrant hues to the coastal waters!

With their elegantly spotted, striking blue-green shells and strong, slender legs, Flower Crabs are truly beautiful critters. They're skilled hunters, cracking open shells with their powerful claws to feast on prey, too. Brutal!

Beyond their beauty, Flower Crabs play a vital role in marine ecosystems, contributing to nutrient cycling and prey population control.

Keep an eye out for these enchanting crabs on your next coastal adventures, they really are a sight to behold!

Aliens!! From outer spa-no.. from the oceans!? Meet the grandpa of all critters, the Atlantic Horseshoe Crab!

Horseshoe Crabs have been around for millions of years, predating the dinosaurs, and barely evolving since!

There’s so much about these amazing creatures, I’ll have to make a bullet list rather than a few sentences.

  • They glow in UV light

  • Their tail is only really there to help themselves if they flip, not self defense

  • 12 legs: 10 for walking, 2 for putting food into mouth

  • They’re closer to spiders and scorpions than crabs, but we love ‘em the same!

  • One cluster is about 4000 eggs!

  • They’re the only living members of the order Xiphosura

  • Live up to 25 years

  • The female piggybacks the male to the beach shore, where she lays eggs and the male fertilizes them

  • They can swim upside down, using their gills as extra lil’ paddles

  • Despite the alien-esque appearance, they are completely harmless!

  • 9 eyes on total

They’re so fascinating, They deserve a full essay of writing but I’m not sure anyone would want to stay around that long for a Crab of the Week post XD

Crab of the Week - 6

With 8 big legs, and two tiny clawed arms, coming from its coral home, is the Candy Crab!

This sweet critter camouflages itself either white, pink, yellow, or red to blend in with its colorful coral surroundings! Sometimes it even attaches polyps to itself to add further camouflage!

Stealthy huh?

Oh! Please note these crabs are not truly made of candy. Though, that would be a really cool product! Candy Crab shaped candies!

March 9th is National Crab Meat Day?? I wonder, now that we’re deemed sentient creatures with feelings, if we’ll get a less cruel holiday.

Still gonna celebrate though, just cause we have emotions doesn’t mean we wont eat each other! Crabs are tasty!!

Go team! This week’s Crab of the Week is the Pom-Pom Crab!

Also known as boxer crabs, these crazy critters carry stinging sea anemones in each of its tiny claws! Due to their tiny claws, they use the anemones to both fend off predators, and grab onto food!

Apparently, in ancient times, men who claimed to be sorcerers used these. What for? I’m not sure. Perhaps the wizards held secret underground fighting arenas between their pet boxer crabs!

Percnon Gibbesi and Grapsus Grapsus. Both are referred to as the Sally Lightfoot Crab, but Grapsus Grapsus takes the name while Percnon Gibbesi is more commonly called the Nimble Spray Crab!

Funny how names work, huh? Imagine if horses and donkeys had interchangeable names!
