I would like to amend this statement. I am once again reminding you that the Unsustainability is my own personal phenomenon caused by being aware of perception, characterized by physical and vocal spasming. It is easily mistaken for anxiety, and it is a way that you are, not a way that you feel.

iOS 18 needs to add safeguards against that thing where you accidentally hold down the volume-up button and your ears explode. This has happened to me more times than I can remember. Given that I have access to the iOS 18 feedback system, should I pitch this as a feature?

Ruffles, don't fall asleep here. It's not safe!
Ah, such a small delicate thing you are.
And yet, you rebooted a giant organic superstructure and brought peace between two godlike entities of which you have no understanding. But why?
I don't know if I'll ever understand, but in any case, you're always welcome here.
For now, though, I still have a lot of information to catch up on.

If you really think about it, elevators are more than a little nightmarish. There are three ways to die by elevator, but many lesser tragedies can arise from their misuse, intentional or otherwise . . .

One day, someone delivering a large package came through the lobby, unknowingly dropping packing material from a hole in the box all over [Coworker]’s lobby and one elevator. [Coworker] came to the Human Resources department to borrow their (brand-new) vacuum. About fifteen minutes later, he brought it back, apologetic that he’d broken it. The power cord was pulled apart — completely severed — about ten feet from the plug.

Me: “How did you do this to the power cord?”

Coworker: “Well… I plugged the vacuum into a power outlet.”

Me: “Yes… that’s how they work.”

Coworker: “I used the power outlet in the elevator lobby. And then I started vacuuming inside the elevator.”

I could see where this was going, but I hoped it wasn’t.

Me: “Okay…”

Coworker: “And then the doors closed…”

Yes. He LET THE DOORS CLOSE and, elevators being elevators, it headed up to the top floor — severing the cord in the process.

“This is no constitutionally governed state; this is a land of rhinos! This is legalized robbery by police. I’m surprised they aren’t allowed to shoot you, too. But of course, if they shoot you, they cannot get any money out of you.”

- Keijo Kopra, a very angry man bitterly complaining after being fined $47,000 for speeding. In Finland, in what the government says is an old Nordic tradition, traffic fines are based on a person's ability to pay. If you're pulled over doing 60 in Helsinki, the traffic cop will punch your ID into his cell phone and instantly receive on his screen your monthly income and an appropriate fine. Kopra was originally fined $14,000 for going 14 MPH over the speed limit. He challenged it in court, but the judge got mad and eventually more than tripled it.

Hot take: Fines should be based on your income. The bigger your income, the bigger the fine.

Fines are something used to discourage someone doing something, but it’s hardly discouraging for a millionaire who can happily take a parking ticket whenever they like, they aren’t above the law.

You never know when you’ll need an HDMI capture card. I wish I had gotten one much earlier, when I wanted one so I could freely record video from my Switch and stream it in Zoom meetings. The low-tech approach of jamming my phone between the couch cushions is no longer good enough.

Can anyone recommend a capture card that converts HDMI to a USB-C or USB-A audio and video input, is recognized as such by a macOS device, and works with Zoom?

I'm currently reading the results of my recent educational evaluation. It’s interesting to see myself analyzed from the perspective of someone else. I'll consider broadcasting an annotated selection of it over RW-570.

I just finished watching a documentary about the behind-the-scenes of Walt Disney’s production studios in the 1940s, back when the company's namesake was still alive. Now my chest hurts a little . . .

Bald-faced hornets are only a 2 on the Schmidt pain index, so I shouldn't complain. The tennis ball ejected from the dryer exhaust vent could have ricocheted off the nest of a much higher-scoring insect before knocking me off the ladder. Really, I'm lucky.
